+JMJ+ · Our story

A family, a few good acres, and a refusal to cut corners.

Cottage Pastures is a regenerative, faith-rooted family farm in the hills of Switzerland County, Indiana.

Cottage Pastures was founded in September of 2022 on the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel. The goal was to build a homestead for our family, after relocating to the countryside of Southeastern Indiana, from the Cincinnati, OH suburbs.

A secondary goal soon emerged – build a homestead that could also overflow with production and offer food for sale.

Since then Cottage Pastures has scaled to something bigger. We now are on a mission to build one of the most integrated, regenerative farms possible – a farm that includes honeybees, cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, herbs, flowers, produce and more. A place where visitors can bring their family for a tour, schools can bring students for a fieldtrip, and visitors from around the world can come to see a possibility of the family farm.

How we do it

The land, the animals, the family.

The Land

Twenty-six acres in Vevay, Indiana — a scenic road-trip from Cincinnati, Louisville, and Indianapolis. This ground was historically tobacco, then cattle. We are building soil with a crop-and-animal program meant to leave it more alive than we found it.

The Animals

Raised on pasture and in the woods, in a manner consistent with their animal-ness. Chickens and pigs eat a soy- and corn-free ration of organic-certified grains. Cattle and sheep live primarily off forage and hay, including finishing.

The Family

We believe deeply in the family society and are thankful for the opportunity to live this reality out in the countryside. Visitors will certainly see and interact with family members – some of the most energetic tour guides here are under age of 7!
