Soy & Corn Free, air-chilled chicken.

Chicken raised in Switzerland County (Southeastern Indiana) near Vevay, Indiana. Raised on pasture, delivering throughout the Cincinnati Tri State Region and Nationwide.

Cottage Pastures is a first-generation family farm in Vevay, on the Ohio River in Southeastern Indiana. Frozen meat leave this farm for porches across the lower 48 and Alaska. Neighbors in Cincinnati, Madison, Lawrenceburg, and Louisville often pick up here instead (schedule an appointment by calling or texting Mathew at 513-543-0749).

The birds go on pasture as soon as they can handle the weather. They are moved to fresh ground consistently. The feed ration is proprietary and milled at an organic-certified mill in Kentucky. Beginning in 2026, our chicken is not just soy free, but also corn free.

Orders can be placed as pre-orders for Spring and Autumn Chickens, or on-demand orders as overflow inventory allows.

What we mean

Standards for Raising Chicken at Cottage Pastures

Pasture-raised

Not confined to pasture, raised on pasture where they can move freely. Visitors will see the chickens hunting for bugs, scratching through the soil and stretching their legs beneath the sunlight.

Soy- and corn-free

We use a grower and finisher ration for our chicken – neither includes soy or corn as ingredients. This mix has produced countless reviews remarking about the flavor of the chicken meat.

Air-chilled

We have developed multiple relationships with USDA Inspected Poultry Processors who utilize air chilling methods. This helps improve cooking quality and avoids unnecessary water in the chilling process.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you ship chicken nationwide?

Yes. Frozen chicken ships on posted dates across the lower 48, packed in insulated liners with dry ice. Shipping is by zone from the farm. Shipping prices vary based on location – at this time we do not offer free shipping for frozen meat because absorbing the cost of delivery would force us to either not ship meat or significantly increase the cost of the meat. Free pickup is available in Vevay, Indiana.

Where can I buy soy-free, air-chilled chicken near Cincinnati?

From Cottage Pastures! We are located bout an hour from Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky — or have the same bird frozen to your door anywhere in the lower 48. Pickup is free at 10454 N State Road 56.

What does air-chilled mean?

After slaughter, air chilling is a method of cooling the carcass of the chicken without cold water. This helps to improve the flavor of the chicken but also reduces the potential for added water to be absorbed into the meat of the chicken.

Is your chicken certified organic?

No. The feed we use for our chickens comes from an organic certified feed mill, the birds are not offered vaccinations, hormones or antibiotics. So, it meets the standards but we have not found a reason to justify the cost of getting the permission to use that word for our chicken to date.

When is chicken available?

Chicken is available online for ordering in the Farm Store. Otherwise, joining our email newsletter for inventory updates, or simply giving a call to Mathew for what is available is always an option (513-543-0749).

Is this the same chicken you eat?

Yes. The chicken we raise and sell is the same chicken we serve at our dinner table for friends and family.
