The herb line — American-grown herbal teas, calendula beeswax salve, and soap.

American-grown herbs from Cottage Pastures

Why it matters

Most herbal tea in grown outside of the United States

In 2022 we began planting garlic and were overwhelmed with the demand for American Grown garlic. We had no idea it was of interest to so many people, we just wanted to plant some for our family. In the following years we realized the same potential exists for herbs – most are grown outside of the United States. So we paused and considered whether or not we could bring herbs and herbal teas to our land in Switzerland County. And for many herbs, the answer is affirmatively “yes!”

In 2026 we began our trials for herbs – we have learned a lot about the proper planting schedule, harvest techniques, dehydration and more.

Be sure to check out what we have to offer from the herb line. We are looking forward to a full lineup of salves, herbal teas, and more!

This year's tin

Calendula beeswax salve.

A lead offer of the November line. Beeswax from the hives on this farm. Calendula from the herb rows. Packed in a small tin for the kitchen — the same one we keep by the sink after chores.

We name the ingredients. We do not treat, cure, or moisturize by claim. It is wax and flower from this ground.

Herbs Grown with Real Quality

From seed to packaging, diligent care goes into ensuring our American Grown Herbs at Cottage Pastures are unadulterated by synthetic chemicals or any other degradation which would make them unfit for use.

The work ahead

The American farm for American-grown herbs

The goal at Cottage Pastures is to build an example for what can be both a family subsistence farm, and also a regenerative farm that is deeply integrated with livestock and vegetation.

We don’t want to be only a farm that produces meat – we recognize the need for a deeper understand of ecology than just pasture movement.

Herbs, Flowers, Honeybees, Cover Crops and More. With the livestock, all work through natural instincts under human stewardship to build something beautiful.
