How We Ship

Every Other Week

Frozen Meats

Frozen meat ships twice per month. At checkout you should see the shipping week. Orders are packed in insulated liners with dry ice to ensure meat stays frozen or cold upon delivery.

Seasonal

Garlic

Garlic is planted in autumn and harvested between June and July. For culinary garlic, shipments begin in July each year.

Later This Year

Pantry & Hearth

Teas, Honey, Candles, Soaps and other pantry items that are shelf stable ship weekly. Our preferred carrier for shipments is UPS but you might occasionally see shipments from USPS.

What It Costs

Shipping rates, by zone

Frozen meat ships UPS from Vevay, Indiana, Monday to Wednesday. Find your state on the map, then read your rate off the table — it depends on where the box goes and what it weighs, not on what you spend.

Priced by the meat in the box, at our cost

We ship UPS Ground only where UPS delivers from Vevay within two days; everywhere else goes 2nd Day Air. Find your zone on the map, then read your rate off the column for the weight of meat in your order — the dry ice and insulated carton are already built into the price. One box carries up to 35 lb of meat; heavier orders ship as two boxes. A fuller box costs less per pound.

Minimums & free shipping

Next-day states need at least 3 lb of meat in the box; two-day and central air zones 5 lb; mountain and far-West air 10 lb, so the box arrives frozen. Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky orders of $199 or more ship free. Farm pickup has no minimum.

Overnight & summer

Every zone can choose Overnight (UPS Next Day Air Saver) at checkout (3 lb minimum in next-day states, 5 lb in two-day and central-air zones, 10 lb in the mountain and far-West air zones). From May through September, orders to Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina ship overnight only. Garlic and pantry goods ship separately for a flat $9.99.

The Cold Chain

How Frozen Meat Makes it to You!

01

You order by the cutoff

Each product shows its next ship date and order-by date. Order before the cutoff to make that shipment date.

02

We pack the morning it ships

Frozen goods go into insulated liners with dry ice the same day they ship. Tracking numbers may be generated earlier but order packaging and delivery to UPS is held until late in afternoon to minimize transit time.

03

It arrives cold & whole

Most boxes arrive in 1–2 days. Meat should always be cold to the touch upon delivery but the goal is to get everything to you frozen.

Come to the Source

Free farm pickup, always

Good to Know

Shipping questions, answered

We are still operating right from the farm which means in order to ship meat we must schedule an early run to a dry ice manufacturer, return to the farm, pack all orders and make the drive to UPS. Every other week allows enough time for orders to come in and for us to make the packaging day efficient.

Likely not – they might ship on the same day but have to go in different boxes with different shipping labels. This is because frozen meat orders ship with dry ice which is significantly too cold to carefully include other products.

Yes. Dry ice is designed to fully sublimate in transit. If your order is thawed and no longer below the USDA’s temperature guidance for safe refreezing of meat, give us a call so we can assist.

Send a photo and your order number within 48 hours and we’ll make it right with a replacement on the next run or a refund — your choice.

Frozen meat ships to the lower 48 states — UPS Ground where it arrives within two days, 2nd Day Air everywhere else — priced by zone and by the weight of meat in the box (see the map and table above). Alaska and Hawaii are shipped by custom quote — email hello@cottagepastures.com. Garlic does not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or garlic-quarantine counties in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Free farm pickup is always available in Vevay, Indiana — choose pickup at checkout.

Frozen meat stays frozen in transit on its own cold mass plus drive ice and / or frozen gel packs. We pack these orders with insulated liners to reduce ambient temperature but we do have to be mindful of the outside temperature and time of year. So next-day states (Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, West Virginia and Michigan) need at least 5 lb of meat in the box, two-day and air zones need 10 lb, and the far West (Pacific and Mountain states) needs 20 lb. It’s how we make sure the quality you paid for is the quality that arrives. Farm-pickup orders have no minimum. If you’d like to arrange a smaller shipment, email us at hello@cottagepastures.com — we’re glad to work something out.

The Cottager's Letter

A note from the farm most weeks — and the first to know when each ship day opens.

Is there an order minimum?

Frozen meat stays frozen in transit on its own cold mass — and a small order doesn’t carry enough to survive a trip of two or more shipping days.
